Task 3
To be honest, before starting this project, I was very lost and have no idea what story to write for my graphic novel plus I don't know where to start.
So I went up to Webtoon and see other's author comic to explore for some ideas and see that how people illustrates the characters, scenes and panels. Then, this story above randomly pops up in my mind after I saw a movie which is about there are danger at the edge of the forest but I forgot what's the movie's name.
Before starting my progress, I did some visual research on Pinterest to see on how to build up characters, themes and backgrounds.

So I started with creating different positions and expressions for my main characters and the bears. Here are some behind the scenes.
|
| fig 1.2.1 - Rashid's expressions and pose |
|
| fig 1.2.2 - Bears expressions and positions |
These are all created by pen tool and shapes. Paths are grouped and shapes are united to create their forms. As can see above, it was totally a mess when creating.
Well here are my graphic novel panels in Illustration view.
|
| fig 1.3 - Panels of graphic novel in Ai |
I used totally 23 layers which each layers are for each pages so there are 23 pages total. For the panels, I used 70 panels for my graphic novel. To be honest, it was very frustrating doing this as it's so tough and hard. Because the requirement is to use min 60 panels which at first I thought that was impossible to but then I even exceeded it hahaha. Anyways it looks a lot of time to create the panels, illustrations, posing and expressions.
In my graphic novel, I did use few transitions learnt in week 9's lecture to produce a better visual and tension for reader.

Words effect are used too in the graphic novel to create interesting elements to attract the viewers and let the viewers sense on how strong is the tension just through the words.

Then after I seemed feedbacks from Ms.Anis, I did some changes on the text bubbles and typefaces which she said it would be better to use comic style typefaces to look more interesting and attractive.
Then going to the motion comic part. I separated all the panels into individual Ai file into different layers so that edits could be made for each elements in AE.
| fig 1.9 - panels to being into AE |
There're totally 66 panels to be brought into AE for motion edits. I set all of the panels to not exceeded 3 secs so that at last the whole progress won't exceeded 3 minutes as requirements mentioned.
| fig 2 - Ai file converted into mov in AE |
Then I dragged all the mov file into Premiere Pro and combine them all together for the final progress. Well after combining, my video is only 2min 30 seconds long and also which I think the speed is too fast so I decided to ramp the speed of the whole video into 85 of its actual speed.

I also find a lot of related background sounds to fit into my video from Youtube then I used converter website and convert them into mp3 file then dragged and adjusted in premiere pro.
My final motion comic is 3min 1 sec long.

Feedbacks
Week 13: I showed Ms.Anis my graphic novel, she assist that I can make different colour for the text bubble for different people speaking and also use some comic fonts to make the graphic novel looks more interesting.
Reflection
The whole progress for this final project and task 3, is literally a pain in the ass which a nightmare that I would never want to face again. Remember at the very start, I don't even have any idea how to start which makes me keep on delaying and now I'm still rushing for it at very last minute. Creating expressions and positions for each individuals aren't as easy as we think. It's super hard when you want to make everything looks natural and make sense. And also for story transition, I sometimes have no idea what to draw for the next panel even though I have understand my whole story.
After when I thought this was done, which the next part might be easier, well I'm very wrong. In After effects and premiere pro progress, it's hard to make the motion of the comic have good flows and good speed. Besides, finding a suitable background music for the scene is super hard too.
Throughout this task 3 and final project, I've learn on how to construct characters with different characteristics and also I get to understand more about comic transitions and principles they used in drawing comics. Besides, I also learn on how to use Premiere pro which this is actually my first try on using it. I did explore some tools in it which helps a lot in progressing my final project and for the background music too. However, it's just the beginning, there're still more for me to explore about it.
