Week 1: On week 1, Mr.Martin briefed us about the outlines and expectations for this semester's modules, projects and exercises. He introduced us about pre-production, production and post-production. We were also taught on how to compose separate videos into one with Adobe Premiere Pro. Besides, we were introduced to our final project - stop motion and video effects. Then, we were assigned to watch 3 videos related to the topic we're going to choose for our final project and list out the reasons why choosing it.
Week 2: On week 2, we were taught that in cinematography, different kind of shot sizes are used. Shot sizes that were introduced are extreme wide shot, wide shot, medium wide shot, medium shot, medium close-up shot, close-up shot, extreme close-up shot. Then, we were assigned to take the kind of shot sizes given as a shooting exercise and also a premiere pro editing exercise, Lalin is given.
Week 3: On week 3, Mr.Martin taught us about the 3-act structures used in film.
Act 1 (Beginning/Setup): To introduce the world, to introduce the main characters, to establish the dramatic situation, leads to an incident that complicates the story (PLOT POINT 1).
Act 2 (Middle/Confrontation): Known as ‘Rising Action’, to develop obstacles / complications, leads to climax of the story (PLOT POINT 2).
Act 3 (End/Resolution): Ending of climax, answer to all obstacles/problems, tying the loose ends.

Week 4: On week 4, Mr.Martin introduced Mise En Scène which means putting on stage in French. It refers to what we see onscreen; its visuals; meaning, all of the elements that appear on camera and their arrangement. Everything in the frame can carry meaning. The elements and arrangements that are used in film production are Composition, Set Design, Lighting, Costume and Props, Depth of Space.

- arrange shots on timeline with proper order

Shooting Editing Exercises
We were asked to take different kind of shot sizes given with our camera or devices.

Framing shooting Exercise Reminder
Shoot wide shot with wide angle.
The rest ZOOM IN to get soft background.
Refer to the examples provided or google references for GOOD composition.
Avoid overexposed or underexposed (too bright or too dark).
Do the shooting during day time.
Shoot landscape format video, 5 seconds per shot.
Edit with CAPTION (Mention the shot size), export video for submission.
Premiere Pro Editing Exercise 1
We were asked to download the footage video from Google Drive and then watch the editing tutorial video provided by Mr.Martin and edit the video.
With the footages provided, we were to trim them properly and then combined them all together accordingly to the story board.

3 Act Structure Exercises
We were asked to watch 2 short videos given and write down the 3-acts and plot points in it.
3 act structure exercise 1: Guang (2011)

Act 1 | Guang went for an interview failed because was affected by the sound of the glass ~ His younger brother told him that he couldn’t afford for the daily expenses and rental |
Plot point 1 | His younger brother gave him a new interview on another job |
Act 2 | Guang went out and continue finding the glass he wanted but he couldn’t find it ~ his younger brother’s friend said that Guang is retarded and made his brother mad |
Plot point 2 | On that day of interview, Guang found the glass he wanted when following the lady in a dumpster. |
Climax | Guang forgot about the interview which caused his brother break down and scold him. |
Act 3 | Guang started playing music with the glass he collected in his room ~ his brother saw it and felt glad that he have talent in music. |
3 act structure exercise 2: Lalin (2005)

Act 1 | Lalin introduced about her life and the origin of her name ~ She went for further studies in Japan |
Plot point 1 | Lalin was so obsessed with the social media and the perfect version of herself. |
Act 2 | A writer texted her and request for translation to Japanese for his upcoming publish novel ~ The guy came to Japan and asked to meet with Lalin |
Plot point 2 | Lalin has slowly fell in love with him and was not dare to show him her imperfections so she denied to meet him. |
Climax | Lalin reads the book and find out that this was based on her true story which means the guy (the author) knows about her imperfections but still likes her, he also decided to make changes about himself for her. |
Act 3 | Lalin chased for the guy ~ She failed to chase him back and the guy left |

Storyboard Exercises
We were asked to watch the shot video - Lost and then create a storyboard of it then list out what are the shot sizes respectively and upload it in the template given.
