Tasks

Week 2 // Low Fidelity Prototype

On week 2, Mr. Shamsul briefed us about the module outcome and projects outlines. We were introduced to Figma and Adobe XD. The theme for this semester's project is Lifestyle.

We were asked to think of three app's idea and plan on which to redesign it later. It can either be any topic as long as it's in the theme of lifestyle.

We were divided into groups to develop a low-fidelity prototype using only papers and markers after receiving a briefing on the entire module. It was difficult since it wasn't computerised and you had to start again if you made a mistake. The ability to see a "physical" prototype in front of you, which feels more hands-on as we work as a team, makes it feel nice, though.

Despite the fact that we had a time limit and this was our first time performing the task, we surprised ourselves by performing well. Using scissors and building the prototype, we were able to create interactions as well. We also got to meet the other groups, which made the workout quite enjoyable for me.

Week 3 // Replicate Airbnb App Design

On week 3, we were briefed on the principles of designing an app and what principles make an app good. Mr. Shamsul also provided us few app's designs as examples in his lecture slides.

We were then asked to replicate an app design which is Airbnb. A minimum of 5 pages of the app designs are to be replicated. It was actually to be honest quite struggling to do it at first as it's been a long time since I last used Figma and I've been a bit lost track on how to use it and its features. However, luckily the outcome was fine heh.

Week 4 // Card Sorting

I have never done card sorting before. More difficult than I anticipated. Since everyone views this particular app differently and would wish to structure it differently based on their mental models, everyone's views and thought processes will differ. We cooperated as a team and went along with the flow because of this.

The categories and subcategories for a fitness mobile app were successfully identified. We did have some arguments along the process, but I really did have a great time!

Week 5 // User Personas

For this week, we are instructed to create a mobile app that will enable consumers to order coffee and meals in advance, pay for it, and pick it up from the business. Describe the many consumer categories who might utilise this app. Make a list of several client kinds based on our assumptions and existing knowledge. Make a user persona with a name, demographics, goals, motivations, problems, pain points, behaviours, and preferences for each sort of consumer.

As class was conducted online that day so we once more collaborated in the same group to design the various user personas in Google Slides and using zoom for discussion.

Week 6 // User Journey Map

The week before, we participated in an exercise and worked in our groups to develop a user journey map for a coffee shop based on the user persona. Then this week continue with the previous topic given, we focused on this user flow and our key user persona, the working professional Mr. Eric.

As a team, we worked to develop the user journey map on the board and depict them in various steps. At the conclusion, we discovered that scribbling on the board was enjoyable.

Reflection

Overall, these activities have unquestionably helped us develop a fundamental understanding of the app design process. I appreciate how hands-on these tasks are since they have given us an introduction to what we would be learning. It also gave us the chance to develop our collaborative working skills and work with others who have diverse beliefs, perspectives, and backgrounds because working in teams is more common in the future than working alone. Additionally, while I worked on all of my assignments, I was able to apply what I had experienced and learned in these activities. In terms of learning how to build an app from scratch in terms of the UIUX process, I think this class was the most enjoyable because the lectures were so engaging and we could communicate in both directions.
