Tasks

We must transform our dissertation writing into a journal article for this project. The journal article writing should adhere to the KREATE journal article structure and should only concentrate on one aspect of the dissertation.

I began by including relevant sections from the final dissertation into the journal article and rephrasing them as needed. The paper was originally intended to be a summary of the dissertation's key conclusions, but I quickly realised that it would be far too lengthy and include far too much material for a published article. As a result, I shifted my attention to the solutions, specifically the enhancements of UI/UX designs for the usability of elderly, which is the topic of my research objective 2 for my dissertation.

After receiving my feedback from Dr. Hayati, she asked me to amend the title to “Enhancements Priorities” instead of “UI/UX Enhancements”, see if it would be better. The contents and findings could be discussed and expanded further. It wouldn’t only be specifically about the UI/UX designs but also could include other enhancement like security issues, customisation issues etc because the UI/UX designs of the app itself are already very good.

With the feedback gotten, I've rewrite my journal article with the new title. I then formatted the text for publication as a journal article, created the abstract, and revised the introduction and conclusion to make them more thorough. Appendices and a reference list were included.

Well, no more feedback I'll be getting as there're no further classes conducted and no reply yet from Dr. Hayati at telegram so I can only submit it as my final draft.

Feedback

Week 14

General Feedback: The article cannot be exactly the same as your dissertation, as it wouldn’t be 30 marks if it were like that. Abstract your findings from it and rewrite them into your article's findings.

Specific Feedback: Try amending the title to “Enhancements Priorities” instead of “UI/UX Enhancements” Contents and findings could be discussed and expanded further. It wouldn’t only be specifically about the UI/UX designs, you could discuss them further. The UI/UX designs of the app are already very good, things to be enhanced are the elderly trust issues, customization, and more.

Reflection

It was difficult for me to decide what to emphasise when I first tried to summarise my dissertation's important arguments in the journal article. I then understood that there is too much information and it won't work. When I went back and read what I had written, I realised that since many of the arguments were connected to my second objective, I could concentrate on talking about the enhancement for the usability. However, after receiving feedback from Dr. Hayati, I found it useful that it shouldn't only be UI/UX designs affecting the usability. As a result, I revised my article with the new title and connected the findings to make my discussion of the topic clearer.

Only a few points from the dissertation are relevant to the article, so I had to figure out how to resentence them to match the article, which made writing the abstract, introduction, and problem statement fairly difficult for me as well. Due to my propensity for extended sentence length, staying inside the word count restriction was another difficulty. But in the end, I was able to fit everything I wanted to say in the journal article requirement.
